Gilgamesh and Enkidu Meets Frida Kahlo - The Wounded Deer (1946)
Description
This painting is entitled The Wounded Deer which was created by Frida Kahlo in 1946. This painting depicts Frida Kahlo's suffering after she underwent spinal surgery in New York, she hoped that this operation could cure the pain in her spine that she was experiencing. But the operation failed and it was very painful. Frida expressed her disappointment at the failure of the operation in this painting after she returned to Mexico. Frida has many pets, who become her companion in lonely times. Frida paints using her pet deer, Granizo, as a model. Where in this painting Granizo's head is replaced with Frida's head and given deer antlers, then on the lower left of the painting there is the inscription "carma."
On May 3, 1946, Frida gave this painting to her friends Lina and Arcady Boiler as a wedding gift. With it, she included a note that said: “I leave you my portrait so that you will have my presence all the days and nights that I am away from you.”
