Description
This painting is entitled Luncheon of the Boating Party which was made by Renoir in 1881. This painting depicts a luncheon and party in a floating restaurant, precisely at Maison Fournaise, a floating restaurant in Paris. At that time Renoir and his friends were having lunch and enjoying their free time at Maison Fournaise, a restaurant owned by Alphonse Fournaise, Jr.. The lunch was attended by French artists as well as Impressionist patron, Gustave Caillebotte. Also Renoir meets his future wife, Aline Charigot in this painting. In this painting there are many important figures in the French art world such as: Angèle Legault, Louise-Alphonsine Fournaise, Ellen Andrée, Jeanne Samary, Pierre Lestringuèz, Paul Lhôte, Jules Laforgue, Antonio Maggiolo, Charles Ephrussi, Raoul Barbier. This painting is a magnum opus of Renoir and is a portrait of the times in the world of Impressionism at that time.
Now Maison Fournaise has been turned into a museum by the French government, as an effort by the French government to appreciate the legacy of Pierre-Auguste Renoir and now Maison Fournaise has become one of the tourist attractions in France.
