At that time Renoir and his friends were having lunch and enjoying their free time at Maison Fournaise, a restaurant owned by Alphonse Fournaise, Jr.. The lunch was attended by French artists as well as Impressionist patron, Gustave Caillebotte. Also Renoir meets his future wife, Aline Charigot in this painting.
