Sitti Nurbaya's novel is a classic Indonesian novel. This novel tells of the teenage love between Samsulbahri and Sitti Nurbaya, who were about to make love but separated when Samsul was forced to go to Batavia to continue his education. Not long after, Nurbaya offered to marry Datuk Maringgih (who was rich but rude) as a way for her father to live a debt-free life; Nurbaya is then killed by Maringgih. At the end of the story Samsul, who became a member of the Dutch colonial army, killed Maringgih in a revolution and died from his wounds.
