Description

This painting was made by Salvador Dali in 1931 under the title The Persistence of Memory. This painting is one of the important paintings in the history of Surrealism and is recognized as one of the masterpieces of fine art in the 20th century. Dali tried to explain the big difference between memory and reality. Dali describes this with the image of a melting clock, like a memory swallowed by time. Then the melted stone depicts the soft and hard aspect of this world which is symbolized by the hardness of the stone, then melted symbolizes the real world that is so soft and fragile. The painter tries to bring us to the subconscious state of our memories of the past.
