Ishtar Queen of the Night meets Jackson Pollock - Mural on Indian Red Ground (1950)
Description
This
painting is entitled Mural on Indian Red Ground (1950) which was made by
Jackson Pollock in 1950. This work is the magnum opus of Jackson
Pollock, who made this work famous because it was purchased by the Queen of
Iran, Farah Pahlevi who was the wife of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Queen Farah
Pahlavi then founded the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (Tehran Museum of
Contemporary Art). The museum houses works by Pablo Picasso, Rene Magritte,
Willem de Kooning, Roy Lichtenstein. After Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution, the
works of the world's masters are still well preserved there. The painting, Mural
on Indian Red Ground is said to be one of the best preserved works in the
Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art.
