Shamash meets Andy Warhol - The Flower Series (1964)
Description
This
painting is entitled The Flower Series (1964) which was created by Andy Warhol
in 1964. The painting is one of Andy Warhol's monumental works in pop art. The
source of inspiration for this painting comes from photographs published by
Modern Photography magazine, in this magazine there is a series of flower
photos taken by Patricia Caulfield, a leading nature photographer. At this time
there was a shift towards the styles and themes of art that Warhol worked on.
Previously, Andy Warhol produced works that concentrated on abstract and
philosophical themes. Later he began to shift to themes related to consumerism,
celebrities, death and disasters. When Warhol put this work in exhibition, it
quickly sold out.
