This painting entitled Self-Portrait with
Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird, was created by Frida Kahlo in 1940. This
work is considered one of Frida Kahlo's masterpieces. This work shows the
psychological and physical suffering experienced by Frida Kahlo, this is
symbolized by the necklace of thorns around Frida's neck. Then there is a
hummingbird on the necklace of thorns on his neck. There is also a black monkey
on the left side and a black cat on the right. This painting depicts the
suffering of Frida who underwent 35 operations, her sadness because she could
not have children, and also because Frida was sickly and often spent her time
in bed.
