BINTANG BETAWI Batavia (Jakarta) – Tuesday Edition, May 24, 1904
Description
Prohibition of Possession of Firearms
Residents questioned the reasons behind the application of the new regulation issued by the Resident Assistant, regarding the prohibition and revocation of permits to own firearms, such as guns or revolvers. This regulation was considered quite harsh, since all the people who live here, including Chinese, Muslims, and people of other nations are prohibited to possess firearms. They are no longer given permission to own firearms and if they do, their passports will be confiscated by the Assistant Resident's officer immediately. The collected weapons will be sold at auction. A note from the auction office will then be sent to the police as evidence that the gun owner has sold their weapon at an auction.
