The night of Kuala Lumpur tells the story of Operation Dwikora or the Indonesia-Malaysia confrontation. The main character of this novel, Budi or Buddy, is usually called "Bud". He is of Javanese ethnicity, a former fighter during the Indonesian Revolution (1945 – 1949), who is firm in his stance and has a high sense of nationalism. In the novel Budi meets various main characters such as a Malay woman (Latifah), a British woman (Pauline Adam), a Hong Kong woman (Evelyn), and a Javanese woman (Sri Rahayu). Each of these figures is the personification of each conflicting faction such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and British. From the attitude of each main character, the reader is invited to understand how the general sentiment of the people in each country towards this conflict. Also the attitude of each country that is in conflict. Seeing that diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Malaysia are now very friendly. Of course, it is difficult for the younger generation of each country to imagine that the two countries once had bad relations and mutual suspicion between the two. Kuala Lumpur Night is a good book that wants to know the dark story between the two countries.
