A Wonderful Adventure on the Train – Maggie Lawson's Letter to Minnie Clarke
This edition of the Mataram newspaper contains Maggie Lawson's letter to her best friend, Minnie Clarke. The story of this journey was considered interesting in its time and was later translated from English to Dutch by the Mataram Newspaper and later published.
Maggie Lawson wrote of her sightseeing trip from the City of Petersborough to King Cross Station, London. On the way Maggie Lawson with her uncle, headed to London. Maggie Lawson saw a lot of interesting things along the way. Including the tense thing, he witnessed the passenger across his seat being killed by being stabbed. Then the killer jumped off the train and he was terrified. Then Maggie Lawson tells a story about the slums in Deptford, London where Mac Kenna lives. Inside the slum, Mac Kenna's wife died of influenza.
Mac's old wife then came to him in Deptford, carrying a large sum of £62,000 or the equivalent of 744,000 gulden. At first, Mac's wife cheated on him and followed his mistress to California, United States. With his mistress he started a gold mining business and became rich. His affair sold the gold mine, then died moments later. Mrs Mac, realized her mistake and returned to England to find her husband. After a long search and investigation in the police, it seems that her husband is now living in a slum area and has remarried. But because of guilt and compassion seeing her ex-husband mourn his wife's death from the flu, Mac's ex-wife gave up most of her wealth to her ex-husband and now they reconcile.
